Scenic Reserve and Loop Track

Hakea is settled amongst Pakoka Scenic Reserve. Pakoka Reserve is on the North side of Aotea Harbor, 20 km from Raglan township. The reserve has importance ecologically and historically. It is home to many native species, plants and birds. The reserve is in 2nd generation of regeneration process, covered with many natives including kanuka, kowhai, rewarewa, tanekaha, rimu, totara, miro, nikau and ponga. Kereru, Piwakawaka, Ruru (morepork) can be spotted eating from trees or signing in the bush. The Karetoto inlet was used by both Maori and European settlers. Historically the land was known for its fertility and growing kumara. The inlet is a common nesting spot for land and shore birds as well as sea creatures that enjoy muddy water.

Loop Track

Only a short walk from the farm, you will be surrounded by native forest and harbor views. Walk through trees, enjoy look-out points and jump into the private inlet of Karetoto. You might also enjoy bird spotting. Glowworms can be spotted on the rocks by the creek at nights if not the stars.
